The Dairy Freeze....

A Couple's Journey into Resturant Life has come to an end.......

We have decided to sell The Dairy Freeze.....this journey has come to an end and a new one will begin shortly.  The Dairy Freeze has been a BIG learning experience for both Curtis and I, we have both enjoyed all of our cutomers who came in.  It had became a game of when someone pull up to see how fast we could get their drink on the counter waiting on them.  The smiles of the ones who we knew what they wanted and have it waiting on them was priceless. Those who came in on a regular basis we thank you for your loyalty it is deeply appreciated.  The ones who drove a long distance to eat with us thank you for taking the time to drive in and thank you for bringing your friends and family.  Curtis and I hope that each person who came in The Dairy Freeze felt like they were family and welcome.  To the kids, we will miss each one of you, you brought us many many smiles and when you came in you became one of our own.  When our day wasn't going so good, and you walked in with a smile and would be shy telling us what you wanted (even if we knew what you wanted already) you would giggle and blurt it out and hide behind your mother, father, etc...it made our day better.  Some of you will remember us trying to teach you how to count change, we hope that is something that you will remember.

To all of our nieces and nephews and cousins who worked there, thank you so very much for allowing us to be your first job!  Each one of you did a great job and I wouldn't trade any day that you worked for anything!    Thank you for working so hard!

To my sister-in laws and brother-in laws; you were great for working and working hard, that I will never forget!  You would come in at the last minute and never once acted like you were put out.  Thank you for listening to me and letting me vent!  You saved my sanity!  Thank you for the many times when we were unexpectantly overrun you stepped in put an apron on and went to work. Thank you!  Those nights I might have ran out the back door if you hadn't stepped in.

Thank you Doyle for being our go-to person when something broke or wasn't working you saved us more times than you know!  You are a great person and a true artist in your work!

Thank you Billy Clark for dropping everything and came running when our ice machine decided not to work, or when something decided to quit working right in the middle of everything!  Thank you for being there when we needed you!

So many people helped us these last 2 years so if I have forgotten anyone just know that we appreciated everything that was done to help.

With that being said...my blog about The Dairy Freeze will end.  Thank you for reading it and letting me vent, cry and laugh on here.  This couples journey into the resturant life has come to an end.....

The Dog Days of Summer

To give and update on The Dairy Freeze;  we are putter her back together but it is a slow process due to the extreme heat we are experiencing right now.  But ever so slowly she is coming back together.  The Dairy Freeze will look different in the dinning room, but will be clean and new!  Hopefully mother nature will not tear it up after we are done, but you never know.  So for now it is slow and steady....

Update. . .

Not a whole lot to update on except we had to let The Dairy Freeze dry out real well!  The roof is on, it is a white roof and supposed to be cooler, and really I can tell a difference when I walk in.  There is no electric so that means no air...and it isn't too bad in there.  That will be a good thing once we get insulation back up and things put back into place.  Maybe that will make the electricity bill cheaper, not that I was complaining really for all we have to do in there our utilities are cheap.

This week I think we have people coming in to start to put it all back...so we will see.  It will be a slow process I think but it will be nice when it is all put together again.  Please be patient with us because we want to put it back together right and not just half way.

So like before if you pass by just honk to say hi!

Disaster in a small rural Oklahoma town....

What is hail?

hail: noun
1. showery precipitation in the form of irregular pellets or balls of ice more than 1 / 5 in. (5 mm) in diameter, falling from a cumulonimbus cloud ( distinguished from sleet).

Sounds harmless right?  Hardly...

The storm that was to go north of us but decided to turn suddenly and take it's rath out on Grandfield and The Dairy Freeze.  The Dairy Freeze suffered major damage, we lost our roof and then the water poured in.

The next one will show how strong the winds were....
So, today is being spent waiting on our phones to ring with news from our insurance agents.  Hopefully we will know more by tomorrow.  But the wonderful thing in all of this that no one was hurt and we still have all of our loved ones to hold tight.

Please keep the people of Grandfield in your thoughts and prayers for it will be many weeks before it all returns to normal.  Our little town has all pulled together and helped each other as much as we can.

What is Headstart?

I wanted to tell a little bit about Headstart incase someone doesn't know.  Headstart is a program that is for 3 to 4 year olds.  It helps them to prepare for Kindergarten, and should there be a child that needs a little more help with numbers, colors, letters and so on, the class size is usually a little smaller so they can get the extra help that they might need.  It is such a good program and it is even better when there are teachers in there that REALLY care about the kids and wanting them to do well in school.  At our Headstart we have some really caring teachers and good volunteers.  Each child is given attention and that they know that they are cared for when they are there.  When me or Curtis goes in to help or to drop a surprise to them, they always run up and call us Aunt Jewel or Uncle Curtis, some say...your from The Dairy Freeze!  Or when Curtis' mom goes in they all call her Gammy Pat....  It just warms your heart to see them all running up to you and they are so excited to see you!  You can't help but love them!

That is just a little bit about Headstart there are many wonderful things that they do there!  Support your local Headstart, by volunteering or donating materials that they may need.  Please go through the proper channels before you do, to find out what they might need.  It is very rewarding!

Just one project from Thanksgiving....love the raincoat!

An amazing day today!

For the last week or so we have been telling people to come in today (Saturday) that all sales of drinks will go to our Headstart to help fix the bathrooms.  Well in the course of the week just in the donation jug we have collected $230!  Today was have sold well over a 100 drinks!  Bringing the grand total to $500!  I was so happy to see people come out to help out our Headstart, at one point we had people waiting to sit down to eat!  So it was a very good day and a great day for our Headstart!  If you came out to show your support by buying a drink or just stopping in to put money in the jug....THANK YOU!!!!  I just can't wait to see what the bathrooms will look like!  I will post some pictures of the new bathrooms next weekend!  Again thank you for coming out to help these kids it was wonderful!

Now...just a little bit of housekeepping......  It has been said and asked if we are closing on January 1, 2012.  Yes, we are along with all other business' that are closed on that day too; for example City Hall, the pharmacy, the florist shop, the senior citizens center, my heart bakery and the bank.  And just like all those business' we will resume our normal hours on Tuesday January 2, 2012.

If you should have any further questions about The Dairy Freeze please do not hesitate to ask me or Curtis we will be happy to answer any questions you might have.  Our phone number at The Dairy Freeze is 580-479-5240.

Helping out Head Start in Grandfield OK

The Head Start in Grandfield OK will be doing some much needed work on the kids bathrooms over the Christmas break. They need two toilets, two sinks, two faucets and maybe a few other fixins. To help them out, The Dairy Freeze will donate the amount of the total sales of drinks sold on Saturday December 10 to the Head Start.  Or if you would like to donate to the cause come by The Dairy Freeze and see Jewel or Curtis.  We are able to take Debit, Credit and Pay Pal.   If you would like to donate via PayPal  email is: fastwhitt@yahoo.com  This is a good cause and these kids really need new bathrooms!
Hope to see you there!
