WOW is all I have to say....we opened the doors at 10 am and boy did we have a turn out!  People everywhere!  Someone said at lunch time we had 23 cars and a semi at The Dairy Freeze.  I was so busy that I didn't see all the cars!  Everyone was so nice, and they were happy about the food!  Don was our first customer, he is the man we bought it from we thought it would be nice that he was our first customer.
It was a good day and busy we ran out of food, and had to go and get some more the next morning and by that evening what I bought was sold out too!  So today we were closed so we could restock just until our delivery comes on Thursday.  So we will see how it goes, we really enjoyed our first day and our 2nd and 3rd day was great too...we just have to find our groove so that we can get orders out quicker!  It will come....I just have to be patient.
So if you came to The Dairy Freeze we thank you very much for coming out and supporting us!  Hope that you come back soon!

Tomorrow is the day!!!
Well, tomorrow is the day....everything is ready!  I still can't believe it, that little place is just as proud as can be, the building just feels different now.  She has new paint, new floors, new walls and 98% new equipment.  You know, I have been nervous all day but just in the last few minutes I am calm guess I am just ready to get started and see what happens.  I wonder who will be our first customer, I wonder what they will order...but we will find out in about 10 short hours!
Tomorrow, think of us, and say a prayer..we sure are going to need it!

D day is approaching....
Well the day I have looked forward to and the day I have dreaded is looming ever so near.....OPENING DAY!!!!  I just can't believe it is here!  I guess, I thought we would go forever working on the place...silly me...  But you know, if ever a family has come together it is The Whittington's.  You know I have heard of families joining together and working hard to meet a common goal but I didn't think I would ever see it or even be in the mist of it!  But to top it off, their friends joined in too!  We had people than knew how to lay tile, and would tell us how to do it, and the Whittington's are full of carpenters, plumbers, and welders, and if they didn't know how to do it, well...they stared at it until an idea hit them.  We had someone that did electrical work and he worked hours after he had gotten off work.  Everyone that worked on The Dairy Freeze all had jobs that they would work during the day and then come and work 4 to 6 hours more!  They all worked through sweltering heat at one point the thermostat in the Dairy Freeze said 109 AND that was INSIDE!  So as you can see everyone gave up time with their families and valuable rest time to help us do something that we would not have been able to do on our own.  For this we will forever grateful and most of all thankful that everyone of you believed in us and this crazy idea that we could do this.
About 4 years ago Curtis started talking about The Dairy Freeze and you know I didn't take him seriously, and we would talk about it and then we wouldn't talk about it. But when we flew out one cold January and walked into the building and saw how awful it was and I thought...well that settles it, it is too far gone. We flew back home and for a few weeks we didn't talk about it, and then something came up and we both said, "you know if we had the Dairy Freeze we could do...." and there we were talking about it again. We would be on and off about it and figuring if we could afford it and how much would it cost to fix it all. Then we moved and then like a light switch we decided that it was time to do something else and we would always come back to the idea of the Dairy Freeze. So we made the decision to try it and see what happens, I'm not kidding you it has been tough and stressful and some of the time I thought oh gee what have we done? But here we are about to open. I'm sure by Sunday I will think once again....oh gee what have we done? LOL
Well I have rambled on and I am sure I have bored you...but like I said when I started blogging about doing this writing about it would be like therapy.......so wish us luck and if you can come by to see the crazy couple who have quit their jobs to persue their dream to own a small resturant in a small Oklahoma town.

WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!
The health inspector came today and we PASSED!!!! There were just a couple of things that he wanted us to change, it was not a big thing, so they are easy enough to do.  But tomorrow we will have a practice run and then Thursday I think will be THE day!  YIKES!  But I think I am going to be ok, just made myself realize that it will be like if I had invited a lot of people to my house and I was cooking for them. Because really The Dairy Freeze is an extension of our home and I would try to make everyone welcome who came into our home.  But like I said, I hope that we don't run out of stuff...
Anyway, just wanted everyone to know that we passed, and that we hope to open on Thursday!
On January 1st Curtis and I decided to give away Cherry Ice, here they like a cup of ice with some cherry syrup poured on it, much like a snow cone. It went over real well and we gave away around a 100! It was a nice way to start off the new year!
This was our FIRST order that we got at The Dairy Freeze...boy was that scary to see all of that come in! But now we have so much more and I have no idea where to put it!
Here is part of our kitchen but now it is FULL there are 2 more tables and a freezer in there now!
This is our fountain room, it is great! The ice machine, you can't see, but it sure makes wonderful ice!
Thought ya'll might like another view of The Dairy Freeze...new paint (root beer)..maybe in a few months we will be able to fix the awning....
Well I guess that is it for now, having our practice tomorrow I'll let you know how that goes.....
Have a good night!

oh my goodness....oh my goodness!!!
Tomorrow the health inspector comes to look over the place, sure hope we have everything he wants....we put the finishing touches on the kitchen today, and we were even able to cook grilled cheese sandwiches on the griddle.  Why do they taste so much better cooked on a griddle?  But they sure were good!
If the health inspector gives us the green flag we will finish stocking and then Tuesday have a practice run, then we will open on Thursday (with any luck) oh gosh did I just say that? Open...really??? Never did I think the day would be so close, it just doesn't seem possible...but here it is! I hope it goes alright, and things run smooth, but I know it won't it will take a while to get a good routine.
I have no idea what to expect in the first few days just busy I guess. I worry that we will run out of stuff....uuughh but we will see. Wish us luck and stop by if you can, if not honk on your way by!

Who would have ever thought...
Well my friends, I believe this long bumpy, twisty road is fixing to start to smooth out some.  Our journey to renovate this little place is coming to an end.  We have in the last 2 weeks, cleaned the dining room, cleared out the fountain room and have somewhat put the kitchen together.  Today the stove, griddle and the 2 deep fryers were put in their place.  The outside lights are on the building and tomorrow they are putting up the little arrow light up!  Can't wait to see it up and working after 45 years!  We are sealing the floor and getting all the dust and dirt that comes with renovating out.  Curtis called the health inspector and he is out sick, so we will see how long we will have to wait on him.  We have hired just a couple of people and I would like to hire one more if we can. Oh, and the most important thing is that most of the food is there....I just hope I haven't forgotten something...YIKES!
I am really ready to be finished working on the building, and I am ready for a change but then on the other hand I am scared to death. I don't know what to expect but I keep telling myself it will be just like being a bank teller but instead of a lot of money to be handled you will be handling food. But that isn't really working too well. So, I will just have to wait and see and hope for the best. I over think everything that I do and I wish I could stop doing that and just let what will be, be. One fear I have is that people will want something that we are not serving and get mad, but really we can only serve so much, we have very little storage so you can only have so much really. Ugh, it will all work out...just scared.
Once we open, I will do my best to blog about the daily happenings and surely there will be some funny moments to blog about and many some of the not so funny moments to blog about too!
Who would have ever thought that 2 people would quit their jobs and open a small resturant in a small Oklahoma town? Stay tuned...
