What is Headstart?

I wanted to tell a little bit about Headstart incase someone doesn't know.  Headstart is a program that is for 3 to 4 year olds.  It helps them to prepare for Kindergarten, and should there be a child that needs a little more help with numbers, colors, letters and so on, the class size is usually a little smaller so they can get the extra help that they might need.  It is such a good program and it is even better when there are teachers in there that REALLY care about the kids and wanting them to do well in school.  At our Headstart we have some really caring teachers and good volunteers.  Each child is given attention and that they know that they are cared for when they are there.  When me or Curtis goes in to help or to drop a surprise to them, they always run up and call us Aunt Jewel or Uncle Curtis, some say...your from The Dairy Freeze!  Or when Curtis' mom goes in they all call her Gammy Pat....  It just warms your heart to see them all running up to you and they are so excited to see you!  You can't help but love them!

That is just a little bit about Headstart there are many wonderful things that they do there!  Support your local Headstart, by volunteering or donating materials that they may need.  Please go through the proper channels before you do, to find out what they might need.  It is very rewarding!

Just one project from Thanksgiving....love the raincoat!

An amazing day today!

For the last week or so we have been telling people to come in today (Saturday) that all sales of drinks will go to our Headstart to help fix the bathrooms.  Well in the course of the week just in the donation jug we have collected $230!  Today was have sold well over a 100 drinks!  Bringing the grand total to $500!  I was so happy to see people come out to help out our Headstart, at one point we had people waiting to sit down to eat!  So it was a very good day and a great day for our Headstart!  If you came out to show your support by buying a drink or just stopping in to put money in the jug....THANK YOU!!!!  I just can't wait to see what the bathrooms will look like!  I will post some pictures of the new bathrooms next weekend!  Again thank you for coming out to help these kids it was wonderful!

Now...just a little bit of housekeepping......  It has been said and asked if we are closing on January 1, 2012.  Yes, we are along with all other business' that are closed on that day too; for example City Hall, the pharmacy, the florist shop, the senior citizens center, my heart bakery and the bank.  And just like all those business' we will resume our normal hours on Tuesday January 2, 2012.

If you should have any further questions about The Dairy Freeze please do not hesitate to ask me or Curtis we will be happy to answer any questions you might have.  Our phone number at The Dairy Freeze is 580-479-5240.

Helping out Head Start in Grandfield OK

The Head Start in Grandfield OK will be doing some much needed work on the kids bathrooms over the Christmas break. They need two toilets, two sinks, two faucets and maybe a few other fixins. To help them out, The Dairy Freeze will donate the amount of the total sales of drinks sold on Saturday December 10 to the Head Start.  Or if you would like to donate to the cause come by The Dairy Freeze and see Jewel or Curtis.  We are able to take Debit, Credit and Pay Pal.   If you would like to donate via PayPal  email is: fastwhitt@yahoo.com  This is a good cause and these kids really need new bathrooms!
Hope to see you there!

Knowing your customer's....

We have been open since January 13th, and we have our regular customers that come in almost everyday.  We have one that comes in and orders a steak finger basket, one comes in and orders a western cheese burger and one that just wants a coke.  So when you see them pull in you know what they are here for.  People are creatures of habit....most of the time.  One customer that we just love and he is easy going most of the time, he comes in and orders a ranch cheeseburger basket and a large Dr. Pepper.  Well...one day he comes in and orders a chicken strip basket and a large sweet tea.  He gets his food, sits down and eats he then gets up and wants a refill on his drink (at this time we are little busy) and Curtis gets his refill, and he sits down takes a drink, looks at his drink shrugs his shoulders and continues to eat.  When he is ready to leave he comes up to the counter and asks for another refill but adds can I have sweet tea instead?  I say sure but what did you have, he says "well I got sweet tea first, and then got a refill but got a Dr. Pepper instead"  I laugh and said we are used to you getting Dr. Pepper and never thought about you getting anything different.  So I fixed him sweet tea in a new cup, I am sure a sweet tea and Dr. Pepper just doesn't taste too good together......  Our regular customers I feel that I have come to know pretty good, at least I know about what they like as far as food goes.  We try to remember little things that people like too...some like our bigger straws and others like our smaller ones, so when we make a drink we try to remember which straw to give them.  It is the small things you can do to make a person feel special.  For me, when I remember a small detail like that and they smile real big, that makes me feel good and I have made someone feel special.

I am going to try to remember little stories that happen each day or at least one a week (because there are some stories to been told) and post them.

Goodnight...

Been a long time.....

It has been a while since I last wrote and to the many people who read it, I am sorry.  Things have gotten in the way and my writing was put on the back burner.

The Dairy Freeze is holding it's own after the heat and drought.  We are now open on Sunday's from 11 am till 2 pm and closed on Monday.  That seems to be working out alright, but we are debating about having winter hours.  Here there are not many places that have winter hours, so we are trying to decide if this would be a good idea or not, but we will see.

Our milkshake machine died on us a couple of weeks ago, it was the one that was put into the building when it was built, so it was just wore out!  Poor thing...so we are looking for another one.  Someone here loaned us one he has and it is working just fine, it only has one (whatever you call it) that mixes the shakes so at times it is slow going to make shakes!

So, for the most part we are doing ok....we keep hoping that the prices of food doesn't continue to climb, seems like each week our bill goes up.  Maybe it will stop going up here soon....we hope!  LOL

Doesn't seem like there is much to report even after several weeks of not posting, but really it is day in and day out the same thing.  We have had some different customer's come in from Wichita Falls and some from the Dallas area so that has been nice.  Hope they love it so much that they bring 10 friends back with them!

I do have a favor to ask....if you know of something different that you have seen somewhere else and think it would be a good thing for The Dairy Freeze just leave a comment so that we can see what it is!  My sister in-law saw some mini tacos the other day and we tried them and they are good!  I ordered them and now we serve 6 of them in an order.  Also, we are going to have a BLT salad....it is good too!  Anyway, if you see something or have tried something somewhere just leave me a comment on what it was and I will look into it!  You never know you may walk in and see your favorite thing on the menu and you only had to come to The Dairy Freeze to get it and not have to drive out of town to get it!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Finally some cooler weather...but not for long

Some cooler weather finally came in.  I am so glad!  But it will be short lived, it is to get hot again this week.

School started this last Thursday and our 3pm kids have come back!  It is so nice to hear them laughing and giggling.  The boys gross the girls out with something and you hear this huge EEEEEWWWW! and then laughter...it is good to hear them.

Sure has been tough this summer with no harvest and no rain and the heat has been so very bad, we have been concerned being this our first year.  Since the economy has been up and down, mostly down that you never knew what to expect.  We have been told that the first year is the roughest I am hoping we can ride it out.  Maybe all of my worrying will pay off and things will be alright.

We are needing to hire one or two more people, we are down to 2 employees besides me and Curtis, so we will need to hire 1 at least.  So wish us luck in that department, seems like people want a job but they don't want to work for it.  Heard through the grapevine that someone wanted to work at The Dairy Freeze but hear that we are a little OCD in the cleaning department.  Heck yeah!  What do you expect....to just let it be dirty and hope that the cleaning fairy would clean at night?  NOT!  You work at The Dairy Freeze you are going to be cleaning!!!  I just don't understand how people can be that way...we are always cleaning or sweeping or something but there is always something to be done can't just let it be.

Ok, well it is getting late and it is just me and Curtis in the morning....wish us luck and if you are around, come eat with us we would love to have you!

I'm hoping with school starting our business will pick up, Friday I think is a football game, so I hope we have a good crowd either before the game or after.  So we will see...keep your fingers crossed.

This will be short tonight...

I am just amazed how many people read about us and the Dairy Freeze. Today I saw where someone from Turkey read my blog! That is amazing..I always wonder though is what they think about it all. I mean do they think we are crazy or do think it was a wonderful thing? I do wish people would leave comments is to what they are thinking when they read about The Dairy Freeze...I would love someones input or thoughts to what we are doing. Ok I think I am done rambling, it is late hope everyone has a good night and if you are having this horrible heat like we are having I hope you are able to stay cool.

Breaking News!

Something new at The Dairy Freeze!  ICE CREAM!!!!!  Curtis found a dipping cabinet on an auction site and got it.  So we plugged it up on Monday and let it run to make sure it worked and it does!!!  So by Thursday we were selling ice cream!  We have Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Orange Sherbert, Sugar Free Vanilla and Butter Pecan.  Within 24 hours we were out of Butter Pecan!  I was shocked, didn't think it would sell that fast!  But we will have more Thursday!  I was so surprised how many people came out for icecream, but I think everyone was enjoying it.

This was our first ice cream cone....Dina had the first scoop out and enjoyed every bit of it!!

We will be closed July 4th, this is the first time in a year we have had 2 days off in a row....gee we won't know how to act!!!  Anyway, we hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July!

People who come and go....

The people who come and go at The Dairy Freeze is really amazing.  For such a small town, there has be a very diversified group of people.  I know in the last couple of months there has been a man from Australia, a couple from New York, someone from Alabama was in the other day.  We have one guy right now that is from Italy.  He is very nice and very quiet. I always thought Italians were very boisterous.  But he is very nice and comes in a little.  I think he will be going home this week.  But I am just amazed about the variety of people that come in.  I can't wait till we have someone from Russia or someone from Brazil...

Other people who come and go, are some of our local people.  Some will come in everyday for a while and then nothing....and I will think...I haven't seen so and so and then they walk in the door.  Some people come in a few times, and then won't be back for a week or two...For me, it is just funny to see the people that come and go.  Some will come in and order the same exact thing for a week and then the next week order something the same way for the next week and then go back to the first thing for a week.

Well that is all for now, other than we were able to get away this evening for a few hours which was very nice.  So I feel that we really had a good evening! :o)

Goodnight......

Could it get any hotter?!?

The last 2 weeks here have just been so hot!  I think the air conditioner's at home and at The Dairy Freeze have not stopped!  I can only imagine how much our electric bill is going to be!  You know I can't wait for that day!  Rain has by passed us on several occasions, last night we had just a little bit of rain but not enough to make a difference.  But one thing is that when it rains people come out, especially if they have lost electric..with it being so hot here The Dairy Freeze was about the only place for people to come and wait till the electric came back on.  We sure do enjoy talking to everyone and hearing different stories.  My favorite is when the "older" crowd comes in, now there are some good stories there!  I think that is one of my favorite things about The Dairy Freeze, is when the "older" crowd comes in and then when the younger kids come in, they are so giggly and full of energy!  Sometimes, people come in and get a drink and just sit, and visit and some stay for a long while, and watch people come and go.

Since it has been so hot, we have been having lemonade.  It is really good, and so refreshing!  I think people really enjoy it and we have sold quite a bit of it too!  Coming this Thursday we will have our sour apple syrup back.  I am so glad, it is so very good!  We are looking for other flavors too to make drinks with...they are hard to find too!  But I have a couple of people looking for some for us....my personal favorite was the Swiss Chocolate...now that was GOOD in Coke!  Boy! I can't wait till we get that in again!

Well it is late, so I am off to bed!  Hope everyone has a good evening!  Come see us at The Dairy Freeze for your lemonade!!!!

Ups and Downs

Being in this business is a constant learning experience.  One day you are running your legs off and the next you are starring out the window wondering where everyone is at.  It is those days that I worry about if people like us or not.  Or I worry if we have made the wrong person mad or burnt their food and they told 50 people.  So for me it is a constant worry about customer traffic, but I guess that is with any business I guess.  This week was a little slow, but I am hoping next week will be better, maybe with any luck it will be cooler and people will be out more.

I can't believe it is almost a year since we decided to take the leap of faith and buy The Dairy Freeze!  I was looking as some pictures from about this time last year, and you know it seems like I took those pictures years ago!  Isn't that funny?  Some pictures I took in Alabama and in West Virgina just seem like so long ago!  Some days I think, what if we hadn't decided on the dairy freeze, what would we be doing and where would we be living?  Before, we thought about staying at the condos that we were staying at, and that would have been nice, but I am not sure what we would have done with our two dogs....and I wonder where I would have been working.  I would hope that I would have gotten back on with BB&T.  But then I realize that I am day dreaming and I realize where we are at and start working.  Strange how my life has changed so drastically over the last year.  Wonder what the next year will be like?  Wonder if we will be here or if we will find a different business to try?  Who knows, we may be right here working at The DF??  Stay tuned to see!
Have a great Sunday!

It is very hot here...

One thing I have learned about running a restaurant is that the weather will always decide on how busy you will be.  When it is very cold outside people will stay home, when the wind is blowing a 100mph people will stay home, and when it is 105 degrees people will stay home.  So, I've learned to check the weather before I head out to The Dairy Freeze, so I will have some idea how my day is going to go.  Today it was very very hot here, and not too many people were out and about today.  Usually the traffic up and down the road  is pretty steady, but not today.  I expected any moment a tumble weed to go rolling down the street, and the song from one of the Clint Eastwood movies to start playing and a gun fight to start at any moment.  But there was not excitement to be had today.  You now that I think about it, I don't think I even saw a dog go up the street either!  Now folks, that is a hot day when you don't see even a dog go up the street here!  But I am hoping people were cool and took nice long naps and watched an old movie on TV.  Because that is what I would have been doing!

Curtis was gone most of the day, which was really a perfect day for him to be gone running errands.  I am glad he went, it was a good break for him. He visited an old friend, had new tires put on our car and went to the Goodwill, which he was upset that he didn't find any good deals there today.  Maybe next time he will find some.  He is saying next Wednesday is my turn.  We will see, I would love to have a day off in the middle of the week, so really I am hoping I can take most of the day off anyway, may go and get a pedicure hmmmm......Today after several tries I was finally able to go and get my hair cut, and boy does it feel good!  I went to a girl that has just gotten her license and she did a really good job!  I think she will do just fine.  She is another new business that has opened here in Grandfield, I really hope she does well.

Well it is late, and I need to get to bed.  Hope all had a good day and stayed cool.  Have a good night, and I will blog tomorrow!

Ok back to blogging....

Ok, I havent' been blogging...sorry.  But we have been busy and I am still trying to balance everything.  There is just so much to do and even though we are up at The Dairy Freeze from 9 or 9:30am till 11pm, you would think we would get it all done...NOT!  But we will get there...I think.

Owning your own business, you would think you could come and go as you pleased and have not set hours...well who ever said that was smoking something!  The only day off we have is Sunday, and that day is so crammed full of stuff to do, that I don't know which way is up!  This last Monday I would have paid good money just to have another day off, and that day would have been spent in my pyjamas!  But we will get there...I think.

We have gone through our first round of people quitting.  I think we faired fairly well and I am looking forward to someone new coming on.  Hopefully it will be this week when that will happen.

I've also decided that I am too nice of a person...thought being nice and trying to work with employees would be great.  Why wouldn't it??  If you are nice to them, they should be nice to you...humph...all you get is more trouble.  So I've decided to not be as nice as I was before.  So you better watch out!

Well I should write more but I am just bone tired...maybe I'll write tomorrow...but keep us in your thoughts and prayers and hope we do well.

Goodnight, and come see us at The Dairy Freeze!

Coming along....

We have been opened for 3 months now and things are moving along pretty good.  Now we do have some snags and yes I do get very aggrivated at things.  But I guess that is how it is.  Most of my aggrivation is that for myself I have such high expectations of myself, that I assume that everyone else has high expectiations of themselves too.  It is when I find out that they don't is when my frustrations set in and I have this pressure build up till I just can't stand it anymore that I just almost explode...but my wonderful husband sees this about to happen and he lets me vent to him so I don't explode.  He is such a great person!

I think one of our biggest issues is that very few people WANT to work, sure they want a paycheck, but they don't want to work for it.  But what really amazes me that when people come into ask for an application they come in their pajammas or shorts and a tank top.  Or here is one...girl comes in with her grandmother and she treats her so bad with an attitude and being rude then the next day she comes in and sweetly asks for an application...well I gave it to her, but I won't even consider calling her in for an interview...why would I hire someone who treats her grandmother like dirt on her shoe and expect her to provide good customer service here??

Today we were well on our way to having a very good day, and the wind was blowing so hard, I think I heard it was blowing around 45 or 50mph.  We then get a phone call saying that there is a line fixing to go down and we may not have electric soon.  Well we got things together "just in case" and just when we were just waiting to see what was going to happen, the electric went out.  Then shortly after that a piece of our roof came flying off...so now we have a large section of our roof that will need to be replaced.  The electric came on about 3 hours later.  We opted to not open back up because of the roof and that the wind was still blowing so hard we were afraid that if we did open and another piece came off that it would have hurt someone.  So we will open in the morning normal time.  We will be busy up until the Mason's have their fish fry to raise money for scholarships for the schools but that is alright, it is going for a good cause.  But we could have a steady stream of people who don't like catfish.  We will be ready for them! LOL

Anyway, I think if I remember right in the last month we have had people in as far away as Australia!  I am excited about that!  Had someone in that was in the service and said he hadn't had a burger in over a year and that his family wanted to come down to eat and so he waited, he ordered a Western Cheeseburger which is a double meat double cheese burger with fries...he said that was the best burger!!!  We were happy!!  Kids love The Dairy Freeze, one little girl woke her grandmother up at midnight and wanted to get dressed and come to The Dairy Freeze to have a hot dog...they waited till morning to have that hot dog....:O)

Come see us and let us know if you have read the blog, I am curious on how many readers come into The Dairy Freeze...or leave a comment if you have come in, I would like to know what you think of The Dairy Freeze or if you would like to see something on the menu leave a comment here on the blog...all comments are welcome!

Hope to see you at The Dairy Freeze!!

New things...

Well we have been open for almost 2 months now and we have already added new things to our menu.  One of the new things is a Rodeo Cheeseburger, it has a sauce on it that is spicy, and to spice it up a little more, we added pepperjack cheese.   It has gone over pretty good and then we have added cheese sticks, fried zucchini and a crispy chicken salad. Now we are just waiting on our ice cream dipping station, which was supposed to be here this last Friday but wasn't.  Grrrr

We are playing around with a new burger and having a hard time naming it, but stayed tuned to find out the name or find us on Facebook.  This burger is going to be a larger burger like the Western Cheeseburger, and it also will be spicy, it is really good!

Both me and Curtis are working at The Dairy Freeze pretty much all day but we are enjoying it, sometimes the days are long and I look out and think, boy I wish I could go home, but then if I was home I would be thinking about The Dairy Freeze, so I might as well stay. LOL  But it has all been going good, I am finally remembering people's names, I remember the faces but sometimes the name doesn't come and I have to ask, but I will remember them eventually.  I didn't realize how remembering someones name made them feel, until I moved here and we opened.  Working in a bank they always emphasized remembering people's name, it wasn't so hard to say their name because either we had their check, or a deposit slip to look at to know their name.  But working here, I have none of that to help me, so it has been a challenge...but when I do remember their names they light up like a Christmas tree!  So that is why I am trying very hard to remember names, but just give me time and I will remember !

Ups and downs....

Like I said in an earlier post, we kept running out of food.  How in the world do you learn how much you will need?  For example, we ordered 3 cases of french fries on Thursday with another 3 cases coming on Monday...well we ran out of french fries today and had to get my sister in law to pick up MORE french fries!  But I guess we will get the hang of it soon.  Then I start to think about all of the french fries that WE go through a day and then places like McDonald's, Braums, Whataburger etc....where in the world do we grow THAT many potatoes????  Then of course that gets me to think about all the beef, lettuce, tomatoes and so on....then all the grocery stores.  It is just overwhelming...how and where do we grow this stuff, and you hear on the TV about overcrowding.  But then I see where we are living here in SW Oklahoma and the wheat and cotton fields that surround us, so there are other places that grow field after field of food and grain.  When you sit and think about it, you have to be proud to know a farmer weather he has cattle, pigs, chickens or he has fields of wheat, soy bean, corn, rice or whatever.  They are the ones who feed us and make it possible for us to have unlimited amount of food to be bought to feed our families.

Changing the subject; today at The Dairy Freeze has been pretty good, this week was kinda rough, we had some bad weather come through and so that kept everyone home mostly.  But today at lunch we had a good run, I was glad to see that.  This evening I hope that it picks up and we do well.  Curtis has had a good day I think, he was able to take some time and go with one of his brothers to look at an old car and they came by and Brandon smoked the tires!  So they had a good time and tonight Curtis is going to the Chamber banquet.

So this has been a good day.

Here we are finally!

Our big day was January 13th, and boy did everyone turn out!  At one point we had 23 cars and a semi parked around the Dairy Freeze and a line that went out the door!  It was like that for about 3 days and we ran out of food 3 times!  Never did I think that chicken strips would go so fast and fried pickles!  We sure was happy to see everyone and very happy that everyone turned out to see what we had done to the place.  Since then it has leveled off some and we have our rushes, but all in all we are doing good and hope to continue doing well.  We started off with about 22 items on our menu but that quickly grew into many more items.  If we have the ingredients here we will fix it, so if you want chili on your burger we will fix it for you or if you want cheese on your fries and chili we will do that too all you have to do is ask.  The first week for me I was so tired and thought many many many times....oh gee what have we done?!?  But after that first week, I am not so tired after being here from 9 am till 10:30 or 11pm.  I go home and then I am wide awake for a little bit then I go to bed.  I think Curtis is having the time of his life and he is happier now than I have seen him in a long long time.  So for me, that is all that matters as long as he is happy and content.

I hope you have had the opportunity to come to The Dairy Freeze and try some of our food, I think it is pretty good and we have had people from Lawton and Wichita Falls come to try it and there were some people that were from Durant that was driving thru and stopped to eat, I hope they tell their friends about us!  But if every you eat here and there is a problem we want you to come and tell us, because if you don't then we won't know there is a problem and we won't know to fix it...so don't be shy just tell us.  Some I think that is would hurt our feelings, but it would hurt our feelings more if you didn't.  We want to serve good food and want to have good service, so please tell us the good, the bad and the ugly!

Well I think I better head back and get busy...so come on down and see us!  We have coffee and hot chocolate that will warm you right up and hopefully soon we will have our icecream!!!

See you there!

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Oh my!!!

WOW is all I have to say....we opened the doors at 10 am and boy did we have a turn out!  People everywhere!  Someone said at lunch time we had 23 cars and a semi at The Dairy Freeze.  I was so busy that I didn't see all the cars!  Everyone was so nice, and they were happy about the food!  Don was our first customer, he is the man we bought it from we thought it would be nice that he was our first customer.

It was a good day and busy we ran out of food, and had to go and get some more the next morning and by that evening what I bought was sold out too!  So today we were closed so we could restock just until our delivery comes on Thursday.  So we will see how it goes, we really enjoyed our first day and our 2nd and 3rd day was great too...we just have to find our groove so that we can get orders out quicker!  It will come....I just have to be patient.

So if you came to The Dairy Freeze we thank you very much for coming out and supporting us!  Hope that you come back soon!

Tomorrow is the day!!!

Well, tomorrow is the day....everything is ready!  I still can't believe it, that little place is just as proud as can be, the building just feels different now.  She has new paint, new floors, new walls and 98% new equipment.  You know, I have been nervous all day but just in the last few minutes I am calm guess I am just ready to get started and see what happens.  I wonder who will be our first customer, I wonder what they will order...but we will find out in about 10 short hours!

Tomorrow, think of us, and say a prayer..we sure are going to need it!

D day is approaching....

Well the day I have looked forward to and the day I have dreaded is looming ever so near.....OPENING DAY!!!!  I just can't believe it is here!  I guess, I thought we would go forever working on the place...silly me...  But you know, if ever a family has come together it is The Whittington's.  You know I have heard of families joining together and working hard to meet a common goal but I didn't think I would ever see it or even be in the mist of it!  But to top it off, their friends joined in too!  We had people than knew how to lay tile, and would tell us how to do it, and the Whittington's are full of carpenters, plumbers, and welders, and if they didn't know how to do it, well...they stared at it until an idea hit them.  We had someone that did electrical work and he worked hours after he had gotten off work.  Everyone that worked on The Dairy Freeze all had jobs that they would work during the day and then come and work 4 to 6 hours more!  They all worked through sweltering heat at one point the thermostat in the Dairy Freeze said 109 AND that was INSIDE!  So as you can see everyone gave up time with their families and valuable rest time to help us do something that we would not have been able to do on our own.  For this we will forever grateful and most of all thankful that everyone of you believed in us and this crazy idea that we could do this.

About 4 years ago Curtis started talking about The Dairy Freeze and you know I didn't take him seriously, and we would talk about it and then we wouldn't talk about it.  But when we flew out one cold January and walked into the building and saw how awful it was and I thought...well that settles it, it is too far gone.  We flew back home and for a few weeks we didn't talk about it, and then something came up and we both said, "you know if we had the Dairy Freeze we could do...." and there we were talking about it again.  We would be on and off about it and figuring if we could afford it and how much would it cost to fix it all.  Then we moved and then like a light switch we decided that it was time to do something else and we would always come back to the idea of the Dairy Freeze.  So we made the decision to try it and see what happens, I'm not kidding you it has been tough and stressful and some of the time I thought oh gee what have we done?  But here we are about to open.  I'm sure by Sunday I will think once again....oh gee what have we done?  LOL

Well I have rambled on and I am sure I have bored you...but like I said when I started blogging about doing this writing about it would be like therapy.......so wish us luck and if you can come by to see the crazy couple who have quit their jobs to persue their dream to own a small resturant in a small Oklahoma town.

WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!

The health inspector came today and we PASSED!!!! There were just a couple of things that he wanted us to change, it was not a big thing, so they are easy enough to do.  But tomorrow we will have a practice run and then Thursday I think will be THE day!  YIKES!  But I think I am going to be ok, just made myself realize that it will be like if I had invited a lot of people to my house and I was cooking for them. Because really The Dairy Freeze is an extension of our home and I would try to make everyone welcome who came into our home.  But like I said, I hope that we don't run out of stuff...

Anyway, just wanted everyone to know that we passed, and that we hope to open on Thursday!
On January 1st Curtis and I decided to give away Cherry Ice, here they like a cup of ice with some cherry syrup poured on it, much like a snow cone.  It went over real well and we gave away around a 100!  It was a nice way to start off the new year!

This was our FIRST order that we got at The Dairy Freeze...boy was that scary to see all of that come in!  But now we have so much more and I have no idea where to put it!

Here is part of our kitchen but now it is FULL there are 2 more tables and a freezer in there now!

This is our fountain room, it is great!  The ice machine, you can't see, but it sure makes wonderful ice!

Thought ya'll might like another view of The Dairy Freeze...new paint (root beer)..maybe in a few months we will be able to fix the awning....

Well I guess that is it for now, having our practice tomorrow I'll let you know how that goes.....

Have a good night!

oh my goodness....oh my goodness!!!

Tomorrow the health inspector comes to look over the place, sure hope we have everything he wants....we put the finishing touches on the kitchen today, and we were even able to cook grilled cheese sandwiches on the griddle.  Why do they taste so much better cooked on a griddle?  But they sure were good!

If the health inspector gives us the green flag we will finish stocking and then Tuesday have a practice run, then we will open on Thursday (with any luck)  oh gosh did I just say that?  Open...really??? Never did I think the day would be so close, it just doesn't seem possible...but here it is!  I hope it goes alright, and things run smooth, but I know it won't it will take a while to get a good routine.

I have no idea what to expect in the first few days just busy I guess.  I worry that we will run out of stuff....uuughh but we will see.  Wish us luck and stop by if you can, if not honk on your way by!

Who would have ever thought...

Well my friends, I believe this long bumpy, twisty road is fixing to start to smooth out some.  Our journey to renovate this little place is coming to an end.  We have in the last 2 weeks, cleaned the dining room, cleared out the fountain room and have somewhat put the kitchen together.  Today the stove, griddle and the 2 deep fryers were put in their place.  The outside lights are on the building and tomorrow they are putting up the little arrow light up!  Can't wait to see it up and working after 45 years!  We are sealing the floor and getting all the dust and dirt that comes with renovating out.  Curtis called the health inspector and he is out sick, so we will see how long we will have to wait on him.  We have hired just a couple of people and I would like to hire one more if we can. Oh, and the most important thing is that most of the food is there....I just hope I haven't forgotten something...YIKES!

I am really ready to be finished working on the building, and I am ready for a change but then on the other hand I am scared to death.  I don't know what to expect but I keep telling myself it will be just like being a bank teller but instead of a lot of money to be handled you will be handling food.  But that isn't really working too well.  So, I will just have to wait and see and hope for the best. I over think everything that I do and I wish I could stop doing that and just let what will be, be.  One fear I have is that people will want something that we are not serving and get mad, but really we can only serve so much, we have very little storage so you can only have so much really.  Ugh, it will all work out...just scared.

Once we open, I will do my best to blog about the daily happenings and surely there will be some funny moments to blog about and many some of the not so funny moments to blog about too!

Who would have ever thought that 2 people would quit their jobs and open a small resturant in a small Oklahoma town?  Stay tuned...
